Protector of the Mane is May 2017 monthly reward. As always, you should have to reach rank nine (Mage) in Versus Battle by the end of this month to get one copy of this card, rank five (Warrior) to earn a second copy of it and rank one (Thief) to get the third one.

Protector of the Mane is the new epic Agility+Willpower creature. So you can play this card only in Monk decks. It costs 5 magicka and has 4/4 stats. The stats are bad for 5 drop. But Protector of the Mane has keywords Drain and Guard. Also when you gain health, Protector of the Mane gains +1/+1. If you gain health two times you will get a creature with stats 6/6 and keywords Drain and Guard for 5 magicka. It will be a very strong creature. Even if you gain health one time you will get a creature 5/5 for 5 magicka that is much enough too because of having keywords Drain and Guard. If you do not gain health after playing Protector of the Mane, the stats 4/4 for 5 magicka will not be strong enough. But in general this card is playable.

You will never play this card in aggressive decks. It is just a defensive card with great potential because of unique summon bonus effect. So you can play this card in control decks. It is a good 5 drop for control decks because of important for them keywords Drain and Guard. Also you can even build decks with interesting synergy with 5 drops. If you play Chanter of Akatosh and then play Piercing Javelin you will be able to summon Protector of the Mane. It will be a turn with a lot of value.

You can play this card in midrange decks but it is slow for them. But you can build decks with a lot of cards that have healing effect. All of them will buff Protector of the Mane.

We can play Protector of the Mane on Arena. It is a good card but it will not be the best 5 drop there because of stats.
